Recently, Tumblr announces that it is going to roll out ads across its platform. It means you might see ads when you look at your favorite Tumblr blog next time. “This was a long time coming, and will be one of the biggest projects we’ve ever launched at Tumblr.” said David Karp, Tumblr’s CEO, in his personal blog. “It’s been a busy summer — a new GIF maker, live video, new messaging stuff — and there’s a whole lot more on the way.”
Why does Tumblr plan to do this?
Yahoo acquired Tumblr in 2013 for $1.1 billion, but so far, the site has struggled to generate revenue.
It sounds like a sad story, but the program gives a chance for every Tumblr blogger to monetize from their blogs. At present, Tumblr has placed ads on a small part of blogs, and nearly every blog will have ads in the next couple months.
You must be wondering When, Who, How, How much. As Tumblr announced, later this year users are able to make money after you register for the program. Besides, if you are not comfortable with ads on your own blog, users can turn off blog-advertising in settings.
Because Tumblr is still working out the details of the partner program, no more other information has been revealed until now. As soon as Tumblr has more details to share, we will follow and post here.
